At different points during each episode you have the ability to hit X and access additional information about what you’re watching, including these videos called “Second Stories”. One thing I’ve failed to talk about in my reviews of episode 1 and 2 is the “Second Story”. The preview shows one of the captured miners falling into the cave and I’d be naive to think that the Lekgolo won’t kill more members of the team, whether it be ONI or Sedran soldiers. My feeling is that between tensions rising among the team members and the Lokgolo getting smarter and more aggressive, we will see the team get smaller and the decision of who gets to leave the ring will get easier. Maybe this is because he doesn’t want to make those hard decisions, we’ll see. For Locke, the mission comes first and he wants to give everyone a fair shot at surviving. Even though, at times it seems that Locke agrees with what he’s saying. Despite both being ONI, he constantly puts Horrigan in his place as he is the most vocal and often shows his disapproval towards Aiken. Locke is developing into a fair and respectable leader. The preview ends with Locke explaining where he stands to Horrigan, telling him he doesn’t want to make the choice of who to save. Also, the team spots what appears to be Weisner on top of a hill, however it seems like a trap set by the Lekgolo. It looks like ONI officer Horrigan kills one of the miners and Locke is extremely disapproved. The preview for episode 4 shows a lot more conflict amongst the team. Mesa helps free him and they run to cover with the rest of the team. The worms leave Locke and swarm around the tank. As the worms are starting to creep towards Locke’s body, she activates an oxygen tank and throws it. Although instructed not to by Aiken, Pvt. While fleeing, Locke’s foot gets stuck between two rocks. She reaches in the depths for it, gets swarmed by the worms and pulled away. The Lekgolo surrounds the team and they run for cover. While walking along the rough terrain, Sedran Weisner slips and drops her oxygen. The miners are worried that they will give up their position, and they do. They need to power up their oxygen and decide to do so for only 30 seconds to avoid an attack by the Lekgolo. They are confused by this as the understanding was that no life existed on the ring fragment since it’s destruction. A much different environment than the burnt, destroyed surface. With their direction, the continue deeper into the cave where they find plants and water. In return, he promises that they both have “a fair draw at those straws”. They know the land and can help speed up their mission. Locke asks for the help of the captured miners. Since it has already been powered off, they remove their “dead weight” armor, take just their oxygen, and continue into the depths of the ring to find the crash site. When the time comes, they will “draw straws”. He explains that the team needs to stick together and not worry about who will get to escape until the end of their mission in order to not compromise their objective. When asked how they will decide who takes the tug, Aiken responds “lifeboat rules”. And, in 5 hours, the sun and it’s extreme temperatures will be facing the surface of the ring. It’ll take the team 2 hours to get to the Condor and another 2 hours to get to the miners’ “tug”, a ship that only holds 2 passengers. He instructs the team to move towards the crashed Condor, retrieve the HAVOK nuke, and destroy the deposits to “make sure whatever happened on Sedra never happens again”. Understanding that not everyone will survive the night, Locke directs the team to continue on with their mission. Even if they were to reach the Condor and signal for extraction, there is not enough time for rescue to reach them. Without the Condor, the team has no way to call for extraction and no ship to escape the ring. They are discussing what these “Hunter worms” (or Lekgolo) are with the captured miners. Episode 3, “Lifeboat rules”, opens with the team walking on the surface of the halo ring towards the crashed Condor.
